Density matrix renormalization group and quantum phase transitions

Yan-Chao Li
Beijing Computational Science Research Center
Abstract: The investigation ofquantum phase transitions (QPTs) and their related quantum critical phenomena are helpfulfor people to deeply understand the electric and magnetic properties of materials, which has attracted considerable attention in recent years. In addition, the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) algorithm is a relative accurate numerical method in dealing with quasi-one-dimension strongly correlated systems. It can help us to study some relative complex models that have no exact solution. Therefore, the DMRG method is a promising choice to broaden the study field of QPTs. In this talk, we briefly introduce the concept of the DMRG method and its implications, review some research approaches about the QPT study, and emphatically analyze the possible applications of the DMRG method on the QPT investigation.
