Professor John S. Tse (谢硕教授)

Abstract: A brief introduction of synchrotron radiation and its application to high pressure research will be presented. The importance of electron correlation in the electronic structure of materials under high pressure is highlighted. Various computational methods will be described and illustrate with specific examples, on the explanation of the absence of “predicted” superconductivity in high pressure AlH3, the failure of the effective oscillator model for band gap prediction from refractive index and the interpretation of the high pressure x-ray absorption spectra of carbon dioxide.

报告人简介：John S. Tse教授1980年于加拿大西安大略大学 (University of Western Ontario) 获得博士学位。现任加拿大萨省大学 (University of Saskatchewan) 物理学与工程物理学系教授，加拿大材料科学研究主席。他发表了超过360篇论文，其中有国际顶级期刊Nature 8篇、Science 3篇、Nature Materials 1篇以及Phys. Rev. Lett. 25篇。John S. Tse教授曾多次获得国际学术奖励，是世界顶尖的计算材料科学家。
