Abstract: Nowadays, shortage of fossil energy and the environmental pollution due to usage of fossil energy have become the most critical concern of human being. It is thus urgent to find the new energy resources and carriers, which have to be clean and sustainable. Some potential candidates include methane clathrate, hydrogen energy, nuclear fusion, Li battery, etc. In the past few years, our group has explored some of these new energy materials using first-principles methods. In this presentation, I will briefly summarize our recent progresses on hydrogen generation and storage materials, anode/cathode materials for Li battery, methane clathrate, and first-wall materials for fusion reactor.
