Abstract. An efficient parallel spectral element method for the incompressible Navier- Stokes equations is developed. Using the direct splitting method, the standard Poisson equation for the pressure correction is replaced by a series of one-dimensional secondorder boundary boundary value problems that can be efficiently parallelized. In the space discretization, we use the Legendre-galerkin spectral element method. Numerical tests show that this method keeps the spectral accuracy and our algorithm achieves very high parallel efficiency, so this method can be widely used in computational fluid dynamics and computational material science
