Investigation of Bacterial Metabolic Networks

Speaker: Hai Lin

Beijing Computational Science Research Center

Abstract: The development of the genome-sequencing technologies has made it possible to reconstruct genome-scale metabolic networks of many species. Discovery of the functions and regulation patterns of these metabolic networks has become one of the basic problems in system biology. Using flux balance analysis (FBA), we study the switch of E.coli metabolic pathways in different growth environments and the influences of gene-knockouts on the metabolic functions of E.coli. A triangle decomposition of stoichiometric matrix has been proposed, which facilitates us to investigate the network flux regulation. We are trying to apply these methods to the research of metabolic network of M. pneumonia, of which we have recently completed a visual model by collecting and collating data from literatures and databases. We aimed to construct a concentration based kinetic model of metabolic regulatory network of M. pneumonia.
