Electon Energy Loss in Two-demendional Photonic Crystal: Zero-refractive, Edge state

Abstract: We have presented analysis of the EEL of a cluster of cylinders by using the multiple scattering method and the layer-KKRO method. The peak in the electron energy loss of cluster cylinders is caused by the broadening an mixing of the flat bands. The electron energy loss spectrum can be interpreted with an effective medium approximation when the electron runs inside the arrays. If the system has edges, there can emerge edge states which are localized near the edges and are evanescent both inside and outside the PhC. We will study that these new effects can be probed by the electron energy loss spectrum.
