Abstract: In this talk, we present a review of our tailored finite point methods (TFPM) for the numerical solution of some partial differential equations. The main idea underlying the method is to use the general solutions of the local approximate problem to construct the global approximate solution. It ensures our TFPM being asymptotic preserving method. Our numerical examples (including the applications to fluid mechanics and high frequency waves) show the efficiency and reliability of our method.

About the Speaker: Professor Zhongyi Huang was born in 1975 in Hunan Province. He obtained his bachelor degree at Tsinghua University in 1994, and then supervised by Prof. Houde Han, he earned his PhD at Tsinghua University as well, with the dissertation "The discrete method of separation of variables for solving the composite materials problems". Tenured in 2008, he now is a full professor at the department of mathematics, Tsinghua University. His current research interests include computational methods for problems with multi-scale phenomena, artificial boundary methods for problems in unbounded domain, numerical methods for hyperbolic systems.
