Abstract: First, from the specific physical applications we introduce the fractional calculus and derive the fractional diffusion equation, then discuss the recently developed several series of high order discretizations [Math Comp, arXiv: 1201.5949; J Sci Comput, 56(1), 45-66, 2013; arXiv: 1304.7425; arXiv: 1312.7069] for the fractional calculus. Further, considering the functional distribution of anomalous diffusion, the fractional Feynman-Kac equation [J. Stat. Phys. 141, 1071-1092, 2010] with fractional substantial calculus is introduced. The definitions of fractional substantial calculus, their basic properties, and high order discretizations are presented and analyzed [arXiv: 1310.3086].
