Abstract: Optical microring resonator as a key component of optoelectronic integration circuits has attracted extensive attention on research and application all over the world. In this report, the relationship between optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams and whisper gallery modes in the microring resonator was investigated and a novel microring based OAM encoder was proposed. Meanwhile, an OAM decoder was also proposed with the method of “sampling and interference” and experimentally demonstrated. Based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) assisted microring, optical processors were proposed for microwave photonic filters and the tunability and reconfigurability were demonstrated.
