Abstract

Entropy is an important concept in the context thermodynamics and many related subjects. In this talk we focus on its role in the context of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). By reviewing the association with hyperbolicity, positivity, and symmetry of hyperbolic balance laws, we investigate the entropy stability property of numerical methods in comparison with numerical viscosity, and quantify the entropy production from the temporal discretization.
