We discuss some strange phenomena concerning the asymptotic behavior of strongly coupled systems of convection-diffusion problems and singularly perturbed fractional boundary value problems.
 

Hans-Goerg Roos was born in 1949. He obtained his PHD and habilitation on the asymptotic analysis of singularly perturbed problems at the University of Magdeburg. Since 1984 assistant professor, since 1987 full professor for numerical methods and partial differential equations at the Technical University of Dresden. Current research interests are numerical methods for singularly perturbed problems and finite element methods, in general.
