A robust method for designing multistable systems by embedding bistable subsystems

Abstract

In this talk we discuss a robust method to develop multistable mathematical models by embedding bistable models together. Using the GATA1-GATA2-PU.1 module in hematopoiesis as the test system, we discuss a tristable model based on two bistable models without any high cooperative coefficients, and then modify the tristable model based on experimentally determined mechanisms. The modified model successfully realises four stable steady states and accurately reflects a recent experimental observation showing four transcriptional states. The proposed method is a general approach to develop mathematical models for realising multistability and heterogeneity in complex systems.

田天海,澳大利亚莫那什大学数学学院教授。在华中科技大学获得学士和硕士学位,在澳大利亚昆士兰大学取得博士学位。在基因网络和细胞信号传导等生物系统的随机建模,随机动力系统的数值模拟,模型参数估计,统计计算和大数据分析等方向开展过有创新意义的工作,并取得了较多的研究成果。
