Workshop and Summer School on Kinetic Theory and Related Applications
The kinetic theory is very important in a number of high-tech fields such as the plasma, and microscopic flow, radiation and neutron transfer problems. However, the numerical cost of solving the kinetic transport equation directly in large systems is still unaffordable. The highly efficient numerical solvers are needed to solve this problem. Or, people may build the simplified models instead of directly solving the Boltzmann equation. The numerical difficulties in different application areas always vary greatly and are always hard to solve. Numerical methods to solve the Boltzmann equation are also widely used in these related application areas such as the radiation transfer in ICF, the flow of a rarefied gas and the neutron transport in nuclear reactor.
Recently, the research on direct solvers to the kinetic equations and model reduction methods together with their applications are very active. The purpose of this workshop and summer school is to gather most representative researchers and report their progress. It invites speakers from different parts of the world and provides a good opportunity to exchange ideas.
The topic of this workshop contains short lectures on the Discontinuous Galerkin method and the introduction to the kinetic theory, as well as the recent progress in kinetic theory. We are expecting an audience of young researchers at China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), and it will also be open to the students and faculty interested in this topic.
